YOKOTA TOKYO is pleased to present “KAZUO OKAZAKI -HISASHI-."
The HISASHI series, a defining body of work by Kazuo Okazaki, uses the motif of a roof eave (庇– hisashi) and is closely tied to his unique concept of “supplement” (補遺– hoi). Through this concept, HISASHI inverts the exterior and interior spaces, dividing the realms of heaven and earth, while transforming perceptions of inside and outside, this world and the other, and even highlighting the essence of things. Okazaki’s first exhibition at the gallery dates back to “hisashi” in 1989, and since then, YOKOTA TOKYO (formerly known as Shigeru Yokota Gallery) has continued to display his evolving work. This exhibition returns to the HISASHI, re-engaging with his core ideas.
